English singer-songwriter, Sam Smith, teams up with NOLA native and former Fifth Harmony member, Normani (YES, she’s from New Orleans), on a new song that has already reached the top of the charts. “Dancing with a Stranger” is a dance-worthy, sexy, and soulful track that expresses the feelings of two people looking to get over an ex while getting under someone new and nameless. The song was released on Jan. 11, debuting at No. 4 on the U.K. singles chart and is steadily on the rise on the U.S. charts.
Normani excitedly took to Instagram to announce their hit collab, with the caption, “I was never amazing at keeping these kinds of secrets but thank you GOD ♥️ Dancing With A Stranger is finally YOURS! I live for you more @samsmith! Thank you for trusting in my ability to take this beautiful masterpiece home. I love you soooooooooo much. Y’all I have a song with a whole legend. What is lifeeee.”
If you’re wondering how these two cross paths, it’s no secret that Sam Smith has been a Fifth Harmony superfan. “Oh, I’m dead,” he gushed when James Corden brought 5H along on their Carpool Karaoke ride. According to Billboard, Smith was writing a track in an L.A. studio and Normani just so happened to be in the studio next door. Fate happened and they decided to work together.
